Oscar Robertson

It was 1962. The year of the triple-double. A record that most likely will never be broken.
In the 1961-62 season, Oscar Robertson finished the season averaging a triple-double. A triple-double is one of the rarest accomplishments in sports, as Robertson is the only man to do so . Oscar Robertson biography
During the season Robertson averaged 31 points, 11 assists and 13 rebounds. A mark that  has not been matched since since. Not Michael Jordan, Wilt Chamberlain, or Lebron can compare.
In today's game, the player that most compares to Robertson is Lebron James who has posted 32 triple-doubles in his entire career. Lebron also has an advantage being a 6-8, 240-pound small forward. During James's best statistical season in 2007-08, James posted 30 points, 7.2 assists and 7.9 rebounds.
While his assists and points numbers are impressive, the most impressive aspect of his stat line is the 13 rebounds he averaged per game.  Unlike James, Robertson is a 6-5, 220-pound shooting guard, whose rebounding numbers would be better than most power forwards in today's game like Carlos Boozer.Robertson did it in an era with some of the best big men in the league like Bill Russell and Wilt Chamberlain. Too often in sports fans forget about the accomplishments of legendary athletes and brush off their accomplishments by saying that the players were not as athletic. I believe that these legendary athletes could compete in any era.
